800 service with Ads USA TODAY reports that three new 800 services are offering free directory assistance. The only cost: 15 seconds of your commercial-listening time. Using the Google model, these services have signed up advertisers such as Travelocity.com, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Hotels.com: callers seeking the number of a pizza shop may hear the ad of a rival such as Domino's Pizza, and can choose to connect to Domino's instead. With directory assistance being a $7.2 billion market, these companies: 1-800-411-SAVE, 1-800-FREE-411 and 1-800-411-METRO, hope to capture 1% market share by year's end. |
